Frequently asked

Answers, not sales pitches.

The questions that come up on most scoping calls. If yours isn't here, send it to us — we'll add it.

About working together

How do we get started?
Send a one-paragraph email through the contact form telling us what you want to build, why, and any rough timeline. We'll come back within a working day with either a scoping call slot or an honest "this isn't us". The first call is free, takes 30 minutes, and ends with you knowing exactly what we'd charge and ship.
How small is too small a project?
We don't do under £5k of build work — not because we're snobs, but because the overhead of scoping, contracting, kickoff and reporting eats most of the value at that size. If your project is smaller than that, we'll usually point you at someone we trust who handles short engagements better.
Can we just hire you for marketing without a build?
Yes. About a third of our retainer clients have product teams already and just want senior marketing operators. We'll still ask to look at the product before quoting, because the marketing only works if the product backs the promises up.
Where are you based, and do you work remote?
UK-registered, working remote-first, with most clients meeting us over Slack and weekly video calls. We're happy to come on-site for a kickoff or quarterly review if you're in the UK and would prefer that.

Pricing & contracts

How is pricing structured?
Build work is fixed-price, fixed-scope, fixed-date — quoted after a 30-minute scoping call. Marketing is a monthly retainer with a 90-day initial commitment, then month-to-month. Embedded engagements are a quarterly minimum, monthly review, 30 days' notice to pause.
Do you charge by the hour?
No. Hourly billing rewards slow work and punishes good engineering — neither of which serves you. Our fixed quotes mean we keep the upside if we ship efficiently and we eat the cost if we mis-scope. That keeps incentives aligned.
What happens if scope changes mid-project?
Honestly: it usually does. We deliberately scope in slices, so if your priorities change after slice three, we just re-quote slices four and five. No "change request" forms, no PMO dance. You'll always know what the next two weeks costs before we start them.
Who owns the IP?
You do, on payment. Code, designs, brand assets, ad creative — all yours. We retain a non-exclusive right to reference the work in our portfolio unless you specifically ask us not to (some clients prefer that, especially in regulated industries).
Can we cancel?
Build projects: yes, on completion of the current slice — you pay for what we've shipped, and we hand over the code, repos and credentials. Marketing retainers: 30 days' notice after the initial 90 days. We don't believe in lock-ins; if the work isn't earning the fee, neither of us should want to keep going.

How we build

What stack do you use?
Default: React / Next on the front end, Node + Postgres (with Prisma) on the back end, React Native or native Swift / Kotlin on mobile, Stripe for payments, Caddy or Cloudflare in front. We pick the boring, well-supported tools that'll still be supported in five years — not the framework someone tweeted about last week.
Do we get the source code?
Yes. From day one. The repo lives in your GitHub org (or ours, then transferred at the end — whichever you prefer). Every commit is on your side of the fence. We're not in the business of holding code hostage.
How do you handle App Store / Play Store submission?
Included in mobile build engagements. We handle store listings, screens, copy, age ratings, privacy disclosures and the TestFlight / internal-testing rollout. The accounts go in your name — you own the relationship with Apple and Google directly, we just drive the submission process.
What about ongoing maintenance?
30 to 90 days of post-launch support is included with build engagements. After that, most clients move to a small monthly maintenance retainer (from £600/mo) that covers monitoring, security patches and small tweaks. You can also bring it in-house — we'll happily train your team.

Marketing & reporting

What do you actually report on each week?
Acquisition cost per channel, conversion rate by step, revenue / activation downstream, what we changed this week, what we learned, and what we're testing next. In plain English, in one Slack message — no 40-tab spreadsheet, no buzzword soup. Deeper analysis on demand.
Do you guarantee results?
No, and you should be deeply suspicious of anyone who does. We do guarantee senior people on the work, weekly transparent reporting, and an honest "this isn't moving" call with a recommendation if it isn't. Anyone promising guaranteed CPAs in writing is either lying or about to.
Whose ad accounts do we use?
Yours. Always. We work inside your Meta, Google, TikTok and LinkedIn accounts — never our own — so the ad spend, creative, audiences and learning all stay with you when the engagement ends. We're consultants in your account, not a sub-agency hiding the levers.

Still have a question?

Send it through and we'll come back within a working day. We'll add good ones to this page so the next person doesn't have to ask.
